At Purpose Printery, we look to find ways we can use our business to do good in the community. That can be donating shirts to local teachers, hosting workshops to teach new skills to those who have barriers to employment or finding the most sustainable products for your branded merchandise needs. On July 31, 2021, we found a new way to make an impact on the community by printing shirts.
CASA OC is an organization that recruits, trains and supports volunteers to be court-appointed advocates and mentors for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. CASA Orange County has recruited and trained almost 4,000 volunteers, including several employees and family members of employees of Doing Good Works. Doing Good Works also hosts a fundraising apparel site for CASA OC.
On July 31, CASA OC hosted their annual back-to-school picnic for youth in Orange County to come together with their CASA volunteers and receive much-needed supplies for the upcoming school year. They also have an opportunity to hang out and participate in activities like a scavenger hunt, craft tables, lawn games, and face painting. Food was provided by In-N-Out and several organizations in the community stepped up to volunteer and provide support. It’s a great opportunity for CASAs to take their youth on a fun outing, a chance for youth to see friends they haven’t seen for a while and spend the afternoon having fun and relaxing.
This year was also special because it was one of the first events held in person since the pandemic began. These events are really important to the youth and the decision to cancel it last year, among other events, was a difficult one for all involved. So the ability to return to an in-person event meant a lot to the youth and advocates.
Purpose Printery, a Doing Good Works company, wanted to make it even more special by providing a fun, unique experience for the youth and advocates. We brought a heat press, blank t-shirts and designs to the picnic so that we could let the youth and advocates pick a shirt, pick a design and make their own shirt. We brought designs that included phrases like Be Kind and Foster Greatness so that youth and advocates could leave with a garment that spread a positive message every time they wore it. In total, we printed 175 shirts to hand out.
It was a great afternoon to make impactful connections in the community. Susan Kenny, the Chief Development Officer at CASA OC said “We loved having the DGW at our event. The kids were so excited to have their Be Kind and Fostering Greatness t-shirts. Thank you, Scott and Ryan (of the Purpose Printery) for being there to make the kids feel special.”
Ryan Henderson of Purpose Printery said “CASA OC is a great organization that has a personal connection to several employees at Purpose Printery and Doing Good Works. The opportunity to make an impact with a t-shirt was special for us and we hope the kids enjoyed their experience this afternoon.”
